GREAT HILLS PARK NOTES

PARK NOTES

ITS MY PARK DAY: Saturday March 2 is Its My Park Day starting at 9am with check-in at the playscape.  Volunteers will work on a number of projects to improve and maintain the park.  We will build a new garden behind the exercise equipment, mulch trees and garden plants,  work on Fox Way trail filling rough spots with roadbase and cutting back plants intruding into the trail.  Another project will be trash pickup in the creek.  For trash pickup please wear suitable shoes which can get wet and dirty. If you want a t-shirt, please register with Austin Parks Foundation at

PLAYSCAPE:  Parks department workers have been observed st the playscape  making notes which would seem to indicate that work there will be starting soon.  Once work starts the area will be fenced.  We do not have any dates at this time for possible completion.  Although the pavilion will be open, this will not be a good time for parties there especially childrens parties since play equipment will be not be available.

PARK MEETING:  Thanks to all  who attended our park meeting.  We reviewed the history of the park and realized that this  year is the 25th anniversary of Great Hills Park becoming a City of Austin Park.  it was suggested that when we have a celebration for our new playscape that we also celebrate our 25th anniversary.

David Stalker reports that all is well on the Trails and wild flowers are starting to come up in our meadow at Floral Park.  We are holding our breath that the dreaded mowers do not mow until our wild flowers have gone to seed.  Sheri Brummett reported that she intends to do the Easter Egg Hunt on April 13th if playscape construction is finished. Sheri needs volunteers to help the hunt. Information about our annual wildflower walk and July 4th will follow.  Now that the weather is warming, volunteers will again be gardening at the playscape on most Friday mornings.  Join the group if you  want bulletins about when gardeners will work.
