We want to thank everyone ONE MORE TIME for making our Great Hills Park Let’s Do This! project such a successful part of the Austin Park Foundation’s Spring 2019 It’s My Park Day.
Those of us who worked to organize the event (Tami, David and LaDonna) are still amazed at just how much work got done–all of our planned projects and MORE!
We built a brand new garden right behind the exercise equipment; we completed LOTS of much-needed maintenance on the Foxway Trail, including filling in parts of the trail that washed away; we pulled about a million weeds out of the pathways of the park; we picked up many, many bags of trash; we spread four yards (which is a HUGE pile) of mulch in the park garden and playscape area; the dead rosemary was removed from the Floral Park trailhead and prepped for new plantings AND the chimney swift towers were cleaned to welcome the several hundred swifts that use them for shelter each year (Thank you Tom!). Everything looks amazing! If you would like to see some pictures of our group and the projects, look on our new Instagram page at GreatHillsParkAustin.
Great big thanks to Starbucks in the Arboretum at Great Hills Trail and Jollyville for donating coffee service and some get-up-and-go on a cold, drizzly morning and to our North Hills HEB for providing delicious healthy snacks that kept everyone going throughout the morning. Please stop by and let them know we appreciate them being part of our neighborhood! Thank you also to Austin Parks Foundation for sponsoring an important and fun event!!
In case you are counting, we had 51 volunteers. Again–amazing! Everyone was such a good sport about the lovely (not) weather and came to put in the hard work we really needed. Let’s Do This! again–first Saturday in November. Hope to see you in the park!
