GREAT HILLS PARK NOTES
TRAIL WALK: We will have a guided trail walk lead by David Stalker, trails chair, and Steve Schwartzman, native plant expert and photographer. The walk will take place on Saturday, October 26 leaving the playscape at 9am. All are invited. The trail is of moderate difficulty and walkers need sturdy, closed shoes. It is best not to bring dogs . The walk may take about two hours though walkers can leave at any time. The playscape is located at 10801 Sierra Oaks.
ITS MY PARK DAY: Fall Its My Park Day will be on November 2 from 9am to Noon. This event is sponsored by the Austin Parks Foundation. Information about registration will follow . There will be work on the trails and at the playscape. Remember, the trails are maintained by volunteers as is the landscaping at the playscape. We need your help with these never ending tasks.
VOLUNTEERING FOR PARK ACTIVITIES; Park Activities are much enjoyed. These activities only happen if there are volunteers to make them happen. November 1st is National Night Out which we will not be having this year due to lack of volunteers. It has already been announced that there will be no Halloween Carnival this year due to lack of volunteers. Volunteers water the plants at the playscape every Friday morning and do other gardening work as well as check on the trail. Please volunteer for these and other park activities.
CHIMNEY SWIFTS: The swifts were counted on September 5th – 5 birds and September 12th – 7 birds. This is a big change from years past when we counted over 100 each year. We do not know what has caused this change. We do know the nesting swifts were with us this summer.
BAT HOUSES: Does anyone know if we have any bats in the bat houses?
