GREAT HILLS PARK NOTES

THE NEW PLAYSCAPE: Thanks to everyone who helped  prepare for our ribbon cutting ceremony  on June 15 and to those of you who attended it.  PARD director Liana Kallivoka and District 10 Representative Allison Alter cut the ribbon followed by snacks in the pavilion,  This project is almost finished.  The  nonworking telescope is to be removed and will be replaced with one that works.  Hopefully the missing mallets will soon be attached  and something will be done to give the children a step up so they can reach the  musical instruments to play them.  Thanks to Ralph Marston for our lovely Thank You sign which you can view located above the water fountain area.  The new playscape was a big project!  Thanks to all of you who made it possible.

JULY 4TH PARADE:   The annual July 4th Parade will start at the corner of Colina and Sierra Nevada at 10am and proceed down Sierra Nevada to the Park playscape.  Put on your red, white, and blue.  Decorate the the bikes, strollers, and dogs.  Join the fun.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL:  If we are going to have a Halloween Carnival this year, we need volunteers.  No volunteers = no carnival.  Let’s not let this very fun kid event  become history. If you can volunteer, contact “Amy Hager” <amyhager1@gmail.com>

PAVILION RESERVATIONS:  We have a free reservation service for the pavilion so two groups do not try to use it at the same time.  Contact  selina.atx@gmail.com to make a reservation.  If you are invited to a party at the pavilion, ask the host if they have made a reservation. If the answer is “No”, tell them about the reservation service.  Info is also on the park website, www.GreatHillsPark.org, and in postings in the pavilion  and on the playscape kiosk.

LOIS fOSTER: Lois Foster who has been  the secretary of the Park Committee for 25 years has moved to another part of Austin. Thanks for all your help, Lois!  Since we expect to see Lois from time to time, we are not saying goodbye, but we do need a new secretary.  Tami Shuey will be taking on the job of secretary as well as being in charge of brick pavers.  The invasive plants project will move into the trails committee

FRIDAY MORNINGS AT THE PARK: Most Friday mornings from 7:30 to 9am, volunteer gardeners keep our playscape looking good.  Please join us if you can.  At the same time, we have a new trail group which checks on the status of the trail and does small jobs there. If you wish to be notified that we will be working on Friday, please send an email to mlaing@wt.net
