SWIFT NIGHT OUT – September 9th
Every year at this time, Chimney Swifts are migrating through Austin on their way to Winter homes in South America. Come help us count the migrating swifts which overnight at the swift towers in Great Hills Park (park located at 10801 Sierra Oaks). We will gather on Sunday, September 9th at the park pavilion about an hour before sunset. It is fun and interesting to watch the birds fly around and suddenly drop into the tower. We attempt to count every bird that drops into the tower. You will be amazed at how many birds can fit into a tower. Our numbers will be added to other sighting in the area as part of ongoing efforts to study the Swifts.
