IMPORTANT UPCOMING VOLUNTEER EVENT
Fire Mitigation Brush Removal
May 31, 2025
Austin Parks Foundation is partnering with the Parks Department and District 10 Council Member Marc Duchen’s office to reduce fire risk at Great Hills Park by removing downed brush left over from the 2023 ice storm.
Register HERE to volunteer and assist with this important work.
Join your friends and neighbors in supporting your neighborhood park by helping to cut and drag brush from within the park to the Floral Park trailhead where it will then be hauled away. This project will serve as a pilot for low cost fire mitigation solutions and help us to understand how much can be accomplished in a given timeframe at a given cost. Fires are an ever-growing threat and through your work as a volunteer there will be a reduction of fire risk to the surrounding neighborhood while drastically reducing project costs!
We’ll meet at the Floral Park Trailhead and get started promptly at 9 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Volunteers should dress appropriately with long sleeves and pants to protect yourself from scratches! APF will provide tools, gloves, snacks – please bring a reusable water bottle to reduce waste.
