Gardening AT THE PLAYSCAPE

GARDENING AT THE GHP PLAYSCAPE

The parks department does not do landscaping in neighborhood parks.  The gardens at the playscape are a project of our park committee.  The gardeners are volunteers who mostly garden on Friday mornings from 7:30 am t0 9am. The park does not  have a sprinkler system  Hose watering is an important activity alongside weeding, pruning and planting at certain times. If you are interested in helping, please stop by some Friday morning. Volunteers are always needed.

Recently, some well meaning person has decided on their own to  to dig up our native plants and seedlings and plant pretty nonnative plants.  Maybe this person recently moved to the neighborhood from a temperate climate and our native plants looked like weeds to this individual..  Perhaps the bountiful spring rain suggested we could do better.  Alas,  summer is upon us.  The deer are already eating lantana flowers and watering with a hose once per week will only keep alive our tough natives.  Neighbors, if you want to improve the gardens at the playscape, please  work through our park committee and learn what grows best in our park.
